THINGS YOU MIGHT BE CURIOUS ABOUT

WHAT IS AN IBCLC? IS THAT THE SAME AS A LACTATION CONSULTANT?

While anyone can call themselves a lactation consultant, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a professional in lactation who has undergone significant training in both the science and psychology of breastfeeding and human lactation, completed 1,000 clinical hours working with breastfeeding couplets, and have passed an international board exam.

An IBCLC is considered the "gold standard" in infant feeding and can work with parents on a variety of topics and issues related to infant feeding.

I WORKED WITH YOU AND INSURANCE PAID FOR MY SESSIONS BUT I GOT A BILL?

Sometimes you will recieve what's called an "explanation of benefits" or EOB.  This might look a lot like a bill but it isnt. If you verified insurance via The Lactation Network (which is currently the only way I can work with insurance), you are not responsible for any payment to the insurance company or to me if you had an approval prior to our session.  For any insurance visit, my payment is $125-$200 depending on your plan, regardless of what amount is indicated on the EOB.

WHAT IS POSTPARTUM SUPPORT?  IS THAT LIKE A DOULA BUT FOR AFTER THE BIRTH?

YES!  A postpartum support professional helps families adjust to life with a new baby, whether for the first or fifth time.  I help with household tasks, newborn care, feeding, emotional support, running errands, postpartum healing, meal preparation, and more.  As your support person, my lactation expertise and my birth story healing skills are included in my hourly rate so you can rest assured you will have the highest level of postpartum support, skill, and knowledge available.

WHAT SORT OF FEEDING ISSUES DO YOU HELP WITH?

Establishing a breastfeeding relationship

Establishing an exclusive pumping plan

Positioning and latching your baby

Reducing pain and discomfort

Oral assessments to identify issues such as tongue/lip tie

Milk production issues

Pumping/milk storage/returning to work

Flange fittings

Bottle feeding/safe formula preparation

Weaning

Milk donation

Lactation suppression

WHAT IF I CHOOSE NOT TO BREASTFEED? DO YOU WORK WITH FAMILIES WHO COMBINATION FEED OR FORMULA FEED?

Yes!  Breastfeeding is the biological norm but it isn't always feasible, even if it is desired.  I support families with any amount of breastfeeding, combination feeding, and safe formula feeding.  I find myself doing a lot of bottle feeding education in my practice and would love to teach you some techniques to have a more enjoyable and connected bottle feeding experience.

DO YOU PROVIDE ANY HELP FOR INFANT SLEEP ISSUES?

I do not provide any type of "sleep consulting" as sleep is a biological function that develops naturally over time.  I provide all my clients with information on the "Safe Sleep 7" and recommend this resource for questions or concerns about your baby's sleep:
